NIGHT CAMERA
My dear animal loving nieces live two doors down from us! Their dad set up a web cam. Their grandpa built an outdoor mini pond for a few fish. There, our pets and many “wild” animals visited, as captured by the digital camera, documenting the times and dates of the visits by an owl, opossum, crows, cats, coyotes, a bear family, and raccoons. These photos have inspired me. In early March, as the daffodils began to bloom in Asheville, I completed this pattern on the brink of Covid - 19 “shelter in place.” After this pattern was printed, my parents’ grand kitty Shed was taken by a coyote in a Seattle neighborhood. My mom reminded me that the word “animal” originated from the Latin animalis, " meaning having breath, having soul, or living being.” The NIGHT CAMERA pattern is an elegy to the lives of all those lived and loved. Be Well.
